A Bit of Crazy Otto's History

Our Beginning in Lancaster

My name is Otto Lindsel, and Crazy Otto’s Diner started in the early 1970s when I moved from the forests of the northern West Coast to the Antelope Valley to be closer to family. After years of cooking for lumberjacks, opening a diner felt natural. I wanted a place that served big breakfasts, fast service, and honest diner food. That idea became Crazy Otto’s Diner in Lancaster, California, known for classic American diner cuisine.

A Small Diner That Grew With the Community

For nearly 25 years, Crazy Otto’s Diner sat next to the train tracks on Sierra Highway with just 12 counter seats and one booth. As more guests came in, we expanded to handle the crowds, eventually adding more kitchens and dining rooms. When trains passed, the building shook, and we spun a wheel to give away free meals, a tradition that still lives on today. It was loud, fun, and full of character.

Big Omelettes and a World Record History

Crazy Otto’s Diner became famous for having the biggest omelettes in town, so we decided to push limits. In 1993, we set a world record with a 1,364-square-foot omelette made right here in Lancaster. We later reclaimed the title in 2002 with an even larger omelette using 34,000 eggs. These moments put Crazy Otto’s on the map and showed our love for doing things big.

In 1994, changes came when rail expansion required us to move from our original location. We found a new home and continued to grow, opening more locations while keeping our fast service and large portions. Today, you can visit Crazy Otto’s Diner at 1228 W Ave I, Lancaster, CA 93534, or at 43528 20th St W, Lancaster, CA 93534. Both locations serve the same American diner classics our guests expect.
